INOAC Group History

SINCE 1926

INOAC began as a manufacturer of bicycle tires and tubes. Since then, INOAC Group has become an international conglomerate and general supplier of new materals such as urethane, rubber, plastic over the years.

Inoue Rubber Co. was established Inoue Rubber Co. was established in Atsuta Ward, Nagoya.

Commenced production of bicycle tires and tubes.

Inoue Rubber Co. was incorporated.

Commenced production of industrial rubber products (molded and injected).

1930

1933

Began exporting IRC brand tires and tubes.

Began overseas operations.

1948

Established Tokyo Sales Office in Chuo Ward, Tokyo.

Expanded sales bases .

1940  

1952

Commenced production of motorcycle tires.

1953

Commenced production of synthetic resin products such as vinyl hoses.

1954

Established MTP Kasei Co., Ltd. technical partnership with Bayer AG, Germany.

Commenced production of first urethane foam in Japan.

Dr. Stackeling of Bayer AG paid a visit.

1957

Commenced production of Foamlite rigid urethane foam.
Rigid urethane foam was adopted as insulation material for the first time in Japan.

1959

Began selling Colorfoam brand polyether-based foam.
Began selling Colorfoam mattresses.

Entered sleeping equipment industry in earnest.

Began selling transparent-nylon milk bottles, which is free from disadvantages of glass bottles and polyethylene bottles.

First entry into nursing product industry.

1950

1959

Established Associated Rubber Industries, the Group's first overseas joint company, in Sri Lanka.

Began overseas business in earnest.

1960

Automotive interior products using urethane foam were adopted for the first time in Japan.

First entry into automotive component business.

1961

Established Anjo Plant in Anjo, Aichi Prefecture, to meet rapidly increasing demand for urethane foam.

Began building production bases around Japan.

Released Foam Edge as water system pipe for preventing freezing.

First entry into piping material business.

1965

Established Sakurai Plant in Sakurai, Hekikai-gun, Aichi Pref. (currently Fujii-cho, Anjo) to increase production of synthetic resin products.

Established Nippon Cellasto Co., Ltd. (currently BASF INOAC Polyurethanes Ltd.) as joint venture with Elastogram GmbH of Switzerland to produce urethane elastomer Cellasto.

1969

Established joint venture (currently INOAC Living Co., Ltd.) with Decro-Wall in the United States, to produce easily installed wall materials.

Entered do-it-yourself products business.

1960

1966

Established office in the United States planning to export tires and tubes to North America.

Planned to expand of overseas sales operations planned.

1969

Established a joint venture in Thailand as a production site for motorcycle tires and tubes.
Established Inoue Rubber (Thailand) Public Co., Ltd.

1973

Established Hukla Japan Inc., joint venture with Hukla GmbH of Germany and Matsuzakaya Japan, to manufacture and sell high-class furniture

Entered furniture business.

1974

Introduced cold-insulator technology from Vamus B.v. of Holland and commenced production of cold insulators.

Entered the logistics material business.

1975

Commenced production of cosmetic containers.

Began cosmetic container business in earnest.

1976

Nippon Cellasto Co., Ltd. renamed Polyurethane Chemical Co., Ltd. (currently BASF INOAC Polyurethanes Ltd.)
Changed joint venture partner to BASF in Germany.

Established Bangkok Foam Co., Ltd. in Thailand, a joint venture, to manufacture urethane foams.

Began operations in Southeast Asia in earnest.

1972

Established joint venture in Indonesia (currently P.T. IRC INOAC Indonesia) to manufacture urethane foams.

1980

Established Inoue MTP Co., Ltd. as a result of merger of the industrial rubber and plastic operations of Inoue Rubber Co. and MTP Kasei Co., Ltd.
Created a comprehensive chemical manufacturer of urethanes, rubbers and plastics.

Introduced the Group's common brand name, INOAC.

Commenced production of fireproof urethane boards, Thermax (S, SII, TS, E1).

Entered the construction material business.

1982

Commenced production of rubber rollers for conveying sheets in facsimiles and photocopiers.

Began automation equipment industry business in earnest.

1988

Began selling simple packaging system Cro-nel.

Entered packaging-material industry in earnest.

1980

1985

Established a joint venture in Canada (currently Intertec Systems), our first joint venture in North America. Began preparations to locally produce automotive interior products.

Began operations in North America in earnest.

1986

Established INOAC USA as core company for operations in North America.
Began preparations in earnest.

Established a company producing cosmetic containers and makeup tools in the United States (currently INOAC Packaging Group).

Established a joint venture, currently Intertec Systems (USA), to produce automotive interior products locally in North America.

Established of Benoac Fertigteile in Germany to produce automotive interior products in Europe.

Began business in Europe.

1990

Company name changed from Inoue MTP Co., Ltd. to INOAC Corporation

Renewed INOAC corporate identity.

1991

Opened INOAC Technical Center, Co., Ltd., the Group's comprehensive research institute, in Hadano, Kanagawa Prefecture.

1994

Integrated the Group's living and lifestyle goods sales operations to establish a new, comprehensive planning and sales company, INOAC Living Co., Ltd.

1999

Introduced the YES system, an environmentally-friendly urethane foam manufacturing system in the Yana Plant, for the first time in Japan.

Began development and sale of welfare and nursing-care equipment.

Entered welfare-equipment business in earnest.

1990

1994

Established Pochet INOAC in France and Shanhai Inoue Xin Yi Plastics Co., Ltd. in China, joint ventures manufacturing cosmetic containers.

Began operations in China in earnest.

1996

Established Inoue Rubber Vietnam Co., Ltd. to manufacture motorcycle tires, tubes and rubber components.

2000

Established Bridgestone IRC Manufacturing, Co., Ltd., a joint venture company with Bridgestone Corporation to develop and manufacture motorcycle tires.

2001

Established Inorec Japan K.K., the joint venture company with Recticel (Belgium) to manufacture automotive interior components.

Established Minami Kantoh Inoac Co., Ltd. for manufacturing a headrest in the southern Kanto Area.

2002

Established I. W. Foam Kyushu Corporation for manufacturing automotive interior components in the west part of Japan.

Established Kantoh Inoac Co., Ltd. to manufacture, process and sell foam products.

2005

Established Toyohashi Plant in Aichi Prefecture to manufacture headrests.

2007

Established Taketoyo Plant in Aichi Prefecture to manufacture PORON(R), microcellular polymer sheets.

Established Kitakami Plant in Iwate Prefecture to manufacture automotive exterior and interior components.

2008

Established Inoac Housing & Construction Materials Co., Ltd. as a separated company from Inoac Corporation Co., Ltd.

Established Shanghai Inoue Taisei Plastics Co., Ltd. in China to manufacture plastic bottles.
